This year’s SEE Automotive Conference is all about giving participants a chance to learn about the regional automotive companies’ trends and plans for the future. This is one of the most important expert and business gatherings in this part of Europe when it comes to the automotive industry.
Previous SEE Automotive conferences significantly helped the business development of SEE automotive companies and showed a need for it to become a more traditional way of exchanging cooperation and experience. The organizer of the SEEA conference is AC Serbia, a network of Serbian companies and organizations that provide services in the automotive sector and produce automotive parts and components. Automotive Cluster Serbia’s mission is to connect scientific, development and public institutions in launching joint development projects, strengthening the competitiveness of its members, achieving a profitable positioning within the supplier value chain, and enhancing the economic situation within the whole automotive supplier sector.
One of the speakers at the 8th SEE Automotive Conference is Prof. Dr. Milan Bjelica, CEO of NIT Institute. Prof. Bjelica is a seasoned researcher, educator and industry veteran with 15 years of experience in complex programs in consumer electronics and automotive, who participated in the early designs of next generation autonomous mobility solutions with strong focus on safety. He is also an assistant professor at the Computer Engineering Department, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, and a Functional Safety Instructor at the University of California San Diego, USA.
“
I believe that every software and hardware engineer should start learning about functional safety. It will be required for the next generation industry since many things are becoming safety-critical. However, we are deeply concerned that the engineers getting out of universities have little or no clue about safety. Just for reference, one of the world’s largest and most renowned IT companies created two chips for autonomous cars, and they both failed to be certified as safe.
His lecture will be dedicated to the topic of functional safety, precisely: “Software + Automotive + Safety: A safe transition to fully autonomous mobility". On one hand, many automotive companies are undergoing digital transformation and transition towards software in order to meet the requirements of highly automated or fully autonomous driving. On the other hand, there are many great software companies (and individual engineers!) that need to transition their software solutions and skills to meet the automotive requirements. Through this topic, Milan will share insights on how both transitions can be less painful given the harsh safety-related requirements and needed qualifications.
